Perspectives for Europe's Climate Diplomacy - From Here to COP 21

15 October 2013
Brussels, Belgium

The Roundtable – organized by adelphi, the German Federal Foreign Office and the European External Action Service – aimed to facilitate discussions between foreign policy practitioners from EU member states, EU institutions and selected think tanks on developing policy narratives that the EU and Member State diplomatic missions can use to generate impetus for the upcoming climate negotiations.

Actions and commitments are nowhere near the needed level of ambition to halt dangerous climate change, even though progress has been made in bringing the topic of climate change mitigation on the agenda of policy makers and more than 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions are already subject to national reduction or limitation policies.

The “Council Conclusions on EU Climate Diplomacy” have provided new momentum to strengthen the EU's voice abroad in support of the 2015 UN climate agreement.

The documentation of the event is available online.
