UNSC Open Debate Climate and Security_Summary

Because the effects of climate change can exacerbate, prolong and contribute to conflict and instability around the world, many UN Member States called on the Security Council to address these threats to international peace and security more systematically and comprehensively. The Open Videoconference provided an opportunity for Member States to discuss progress towards a more systematic approach on this issue, especially regarding improved early warning and risk analysis, enhanced UN system capacity to tackle climate-related security risks and an improved operational response.
