Dennis Tänzler, Director of International Climate Policy at adelphi, summarises the focus of his future work in the field of conflict-sensitive adaptation. The challenge is to consider both adaptation and peacebuilding throughout the entire policy making process.

This interview was conducted at the Planetary Security Conference in The Hague, 5-6 December 2016. It is produced by Paul Müller-Hahl (Lichtbilder Filmproduktion) and directed by Stella Schaller (adelphi).

 

The peace process in Colombia highlights the need to deepen the dialogue on national and local level. But how dialogue can work in fragmented societies? What are the regional experiences in countries like Guatemala or Mexico which could help to position dialogue as tool for conflict transformation and peace building? International and national experts will analyze dialogue about environmental and social issues and invite the audience to discuss the challenges and opportunities of constructive dialogue in Latin America.

What are the causes of violent extremism in Africa? UNDP Programme Coordinator, Mohammed Yahya, argues that young people are marginalized from the political processes, and that climate pressures tend to be one of the factors in joining terrorist organizations. The SDGs can only be achieved when these root causes are tackled.
