adelphi workshop on Lake Chad climate fragility

At the 2017 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development, adelphi, in partnership with SIPRI and SEI, convened two sessions on climate change and fragility risks in the Lake Chad region, to discuss the different approaches and next steps for building resilience. Janani Vivekanda, Senior Project Manager at adelphi, shares the outcomes of that workshop.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the perspective of fragile states

The g7+ is a group of 20 countries affected by conflict and fragility. The General Secretary, Helder de Costa, in this interview explains why climate security is crucually important to land-locked countries and island states. For example, Haiti, Solomon Islands, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Timor Leste and even Comoros are seriously affected by climate change, and require support from the international community.

Lessons from the G-20 Summit for Future Climate Diplomacy: A Perspective from India

In an unprecedented move, the G-20 minus 1 decided to include three separate paragraphs on climate change in the final communiqué – one spelling out a general pledge to tackle climate change, a boxed one on the US’ (rather the Trump administration’s) rejection of the Paris Agreement, and one on the rest of the leaders’ reaffirmation of their unconditional support to the Paris agreement. This was reportedly after the US’ demand of inclusion of fossil fuels in the communiqué was rejected by others.
