The Global Fossil Project Tracker

The Global Fossil Project Tracker (GFPT) is a resource for researchers, communities, activists, and students who would like to learn more about fossil fuel industry infrastructure around the world. It serves as a surveillance system for planned and existing projects, enabling users to track locations, status, size, history, ownership, and industry trends. Currently the tracker includes oil pipelines, gas pipelines, liquified natural gas terminals, and coal terminals. The tracker includes over 600 pipelines and over 800 terminals in over 80 countries.

The tracker organizes information in both a map and table format. Projects can be filtered by

  • Status Category
  • Facility Type
  • Company
  • Country
  • Country Zoom

The tracker was designed and produced by CoalSwarm, a network of researchers developing collaborative informational resources on fossil fuel projects. Researchers included James Browning, Natalie Cherot, Gregor Clark, Joshua Frank, Erik Hazard, Ben Inskeep, Ahna Kruciz, Ted Nace, Lydia Plante, Christine Shearer, and Adrian Wilson. Web/GIS programming was done by Tom Allnutt of GreenInfo Network.
